AGM of the Irish Table Tennis Umpires Association (ITTUA)
will be held on Wednesday, the 19th August 2009 at 7.30pm
in Irish Wheelchair Assocition (IWA), Clontarf, Dublin 3.

Tom Mitchell is off to Germany.
Tom Mitchell, Irish International Umpire, has been selected for training as Racket Controller in Bremen, Germany. ITTA and ITTUA wish to extend gook luck to Tom and wish him success in Germany. "Racket Controllers could be selected for duty at ITTF events anywhere in the world".

New - ITTF Racket Control Directives
ITTF has issued very strong directives in regard to Racket Control with effect
from 1st January 2009.
Directives are aimed at Manufacturers, Coaches, Players and Umpires. ITTF Racket Control policy is to check : Presence of Volatile Compound (VOC) using E-nez, Flatness of rubbers, Colours of rubbers, The maximum thickness of rubber and sponge is 4mm, not a cm over. read more:

New - Player Disqualifed:
In recent Erke German Open, Berlin one of the top Romania's player Adrian
Crisan was disqualified due to playing with a racket that did not conform
with regulation. The thickness of the rubber and sponge were over the limit
of 4mm. It was due to a misunderstanding. Please read the attached.
The mistake is due to handing over the faulty racket to the player who borrowed another racket from his colleague which passed the test. The player put both rackets in his bag. While playing, he played the match with the one that failed. This was discovered after the match. The mistake could have been avoided if the racket retained by the 'racket testing team' and given it back to the player after the match. read more:

ITTF announced announced that "The covering material should be used as
it has been authorised by the ITTF without any physical, chemical or
other treatment, changing or modifying playing properties, friction,
outlook, colour, structure, surface, etc."

ITTA announced Sanction Schemes to be effective from 1st September 2008.
Sanctions are penalties over and above ITTF rules which the ITTA will
impose on players or coaches who misbehave or bring the game into disrepute.
This is the third and final phase of current ITTA development plan on umpiring. The first, Irish Table Tennis Umpires Association, already established, the second, Racket Check, is in place and effective from 1st September 08. read more:

ITTA announced Racket Testing programme to be effective from
1st September 2008. This is the second phase of ITTA development
plan. The first, Irish Table Tennis Umpires Association, has already
been established.

Following discussions between the ITTA Board of Directors and the Leinster
Umpires Association a new National Umpires Association is established on 13th
August, 2008. The inaugural meeting was attended by members of ITTA, Leinster
Branch and, now defunct, members of Leinster Umpires Association.
