End of Season 06/07 Report:‹‹‹

It’s that time of the year again to report back to you the activities of our association.
18th May 2008.

Junior British League:

Kiron Choudhury (IU) and Joe Finnegan (IU) were invited for umpiring during the Junior British League held in Wolverhampton, England on 12th & 13th February 2008.

Sincere thanks to Ken Eliot, Andrew Joyce, Mike Payne, Steve Welch (Referee) and others for their hospitality extended to Kiron and Joe over the weekend.

International Umpires:‹‹‹

The International Umpires examination is organised by the ITTF and conducted through affiliated associations. The examination is held in every alternate years. In order to qualify for this examination the candidates must be the holder of the highest umpiring qualification of the association, and, must be an active umpire for at least 2 years.

Kiron Choudhury (IU) and Joe Finnegan (IU) have been invited for umpiring for the forthcoming Junior British League being held in Wolverhampton, England on 10th & 11th February 2007.

The Leinster Umpires Association wish to thank Ken Eliot & Andrew Joyce, Organisers of the 2nd weekend of Junior British League on 10th & 11th Feb 2007 in Wolverhampton, England. The Association would like to thank Steve Welch (Referee), Mike Payne (Deputy Referee) and Andy Seward for their hospitality extended to Joe Finnegan and Kiron Choudhury over the weekend.

Blue Badge Updated list :‹‹‹

Another batch of 13 International Umpires have been awarded Blue Badge(BB) status at the end of Dec 2006. Blue Badge is highest umpiring status of the International Table Tennis Federation. Newly awarded BB umpires are printed in gold color. The total number of BB umpires is now 99. The list is by country and the number of BB umpires are within the country.

14th Portuguese Youth Open Championships: (archived on 1st Jul 2007)

Joe Finnegan & Kiron Choudhury have been invited for umpiring during the Portuguese Youth Open being held in Tavira, Portugal from 1st to 3rd Dec 2006.

We would like to thank Purtuguese TT Officials for their kind invitation.

Ireland Vs Scotland (archived on 31st May 2007)
The 2nd Round of the men's play off of European Qualifying match between Ireland and Scotland will be played in Ireland on 13th February 2007.

We welcome Andy Seward (Blue badge IU) & Margot Fraser (IU) to Ireland. They are representatives of the English Table Tennis Association officiating over the the match.

Result : Ireland = 1; Scotland = 3

Blue Badge list - Updated:(Dec 06 list)‹‹‹ (archived on 16th Feb 2007)

A new batch of another 8 International Umpires have been awarded Blue Badge in September 2006 bringing the total number to 86. They have been posted to their respective countries on the attached list. The newly awarded Blue Badge umpires are printed in gold color.

  European Ladies - Result: ‹‹‹ (archived on 16th Feb 2007)
  The results of the European Ladies Qualifying Tournament are as follows :
  1. Denmark with 16 points,
  2. Ireland with 13 points, for their better winning ratio
  3. Norway with 13 points,
  4. Kosovo with 10 points,
  5. Iceland with 8 points.
  They will be drawn in the European Ladies Championship at a later date.

  The European Championship Qualification Tournament for Women will be held in Dublin.

Blue Badge Umpires : (archived on 30th Oct 2006)

Since the start of the International Umpires (IU) certification in 1973, the ITTF has qualified over 3000 IU's. It has set a minimum standard for umpires of all Associations, which have different training methods with no uniform standard of performance.

Since 2002, the Umpires and Referees Committee (URC) of the ITTF has taken an important step towards one of its major objectives:

"To raise and level the standard and consistency of umpires from all Associations/ Federations".

Blue Badge is the highest award for an umpire.
