ITTA - Umpiring Development Plan

1. The Irish Table Tennis Association (ITTA) has approved Umpiring Development Plan with some minor changes from the original proposal submitted by the Irish Table Tennis Umpires Association (ITTUA). The ITTUA has accepted those changes and going ahead with implementation of the development plan. The introduction of Junior and Club Umpires are not considered necessary at this state.

2. There are some restrictions as regard the qualification of Examiners and Tutors.

  1. The ITTUA has agreed to appoint Examiner/s and Tutor/s for all grades of Umpires.
  2. The Examiners would be responsible for updating syllabus of all grades and conducting examinations.
  3. The Tutors would be responsible for preparing candidates for all grades of examinations.
  3. The grades of umpires are as follows :
  • County :

  • This is the entry level to umpiring. The candidates must pass in theoretical and practical tests.

  • Provincial :

  • This is a new grade of umpire. The purpose of introducing this new grade is to strengthen umpiring skills before one
could become a National Umpire. The candidates must have significant number of officiating experiences over a number
    of years and tournaments.

  • National :

  • This is the highest national qualification. The candidates should have completed at least two years umpiring
experience at Provincial level over a specified number of tournaments.

  • International :

  • The examination is set by the ITTF and conducted by the National Association.
The examination is held every alternate years.
