Two Irish TT Umpires heading for Shanghai, China.
Kiron Choudhury and Joe Finnegan are two International Table Tennis Umpires
from Ireland will be travelling to Shanghai, China on 28th September, 2007 for
officiating over Table Tennis in the Special Olympics World Summer Games 2007.
It is an honour for the Leinster Umpires Association to provide two umpires for
this prestigious sporting ocassion.
"The event will mark the first time the World Summer Games will be held in Asia, and only the second time they will be held outside the United States. In addition to over 7,000 athletes and 3,000 coaches, Special Olympics expects the 2007 World Summer Games to draw 40,000 volunteers, 3,500 event officials and thousands of families, spectators and journalists from every continent." On a separate note, both Kiron and Joe have been awarded plaques from the Swaythling Club International, an organisation under the auspices of International Table Tennis Federation, at a recent lunch for their services to Table Tennis. The other recipients from Irish Table Tennis Association are Ken Strong, John O'Donoghue,Con Higgins, Bertie Levinge and Andrew Denisson. The Swaythling Club International was founded in 1967 in Stockholm, Sweden for International Table Tennis Champions and Officials. The main principles of the Club are centred on friendship and mutual respect for one another. These two principles were expanded when the aims of the Club were defined at a later date. The SCI have also included in addition “Personal Honorary Members” which includes those person who have given exceptional services to the SCI and to table tennis. Nevertheless, the original principles remains the essential basis for membership. back to home page
