End of the Year Report - 2005/06

Table tennis season of 2005-06 is just over. Everyone is looking forward for their annual holiday. Be at home or abroad, I wish you and your family a very happy holiday. I hope, the weather would be kind with you wherever you go.

The Umpires Association is grateful for the financial assistance from the Leinster Branch of the Irish Table Tennis Association.

Leinster calendar Events

"Once again the Leinster Umpires Association supplied umpires for each event and there is no doubt that this contributed greatly to the success and smooth running of each tournament."

Secretary,
Leinster Branch, Irish Table Tennis Association.

Outside Leinster Calendar Events

We also provided umpires for Munster Open in Cork for 2 days, and IWA International for 3 days. We also provided umpires for Belfast and Fermanagh Open during the year. Should anyone wish to see the detailed report please ask Kiron for a copy of the report.

Training

The highlight of the year is the qualification of our three umpires to the National Standard. This is the first time we have had our umpires trained and qualified at this level by our own resources. The procedure for the National Umpires examination started on 5th May 2005 and completed on 12th March 2006. This was an awful long period, and I hope this will never happen again. However, we achieved that we were looking for.

Tom Mitchell, Cecilia Armelin and Vivienne Barry are National Umpires of the Irish Table Tennis Association.

We are a little bit disappointed with the education of our County Umpires. We initiated a process, through Leinster Branch, with the ITTA. This process seems to have fallen in 'deaf ear' and we are not getting anywhere.

Joe Finnegan and Kiron Choudhury have attended an Advance Umpires Training Course in Luxembourg on 8th March 2006 and were umpiring in the Luxembourg Open held from 9th to 12th March 2006.

The Web site : http://www.ittua.com

The association published a report on the ITTA News letter in Jan/Feb 2006. It was reported that "the association expects to have more traffic in 2006 in their website". Indeed, the traffic has increased significantly as can be seen from the corresponding figures from Jan/May 2005 & the same period of 2006. The website was published on 10th Feb 2005, therefore, we would not have a viewing figure for Jan 2005, but we have from 10th Feb/Dec 2005 and Jan/May 2006.
The following is a trend of the viewing statistics from various countries :

Unique visitors Visiting # of times # of pages
  Month / Year 2005 2006 2005 2006 2005 2006
  January 00 77 00 86 00 277

Conclusion

Finally, I wish to thank all for their support during the past year and look forward to working with Leinster Branch and other branches of the ITTA in the new season.

Kiron Choudhury
Secretary, Leinster Umpires Association.
